Flood Grants

Applications for Flood Grants are due July 6.

Information for Residential Property Owners:

The City of Rockport and Aransas County are scoping a grant project to submit for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding. The grant proposal being together is for mitigation reconstruction, so this is to rebuild residences in accordance to the flood and wind regulations within the jurisdiction where the structure in located.

This grant would only be to rebuild residential structures to withstand flood and wind. Work cannot be completed on the residence except developing plans and a scope of work or else it is disqualified from the grant. FEMA has to do environmental and historical preservation review on all projects prior to work commencing.

You do not need to have a NFIP policy to qualify, but you will need to get a policy upon completion of the project.

Also – multiple hazard mitigations can be inputted into the Cost Benefit Analysis tool, such as flood and hurricane wind. Mitigating for both might help the overall benefit cost ratio. A recommended way to address hurricane wind is through the FORTIFIED program, which is similar to FEMA’s P-804 Wind Retrofit program.

You can learn more about it here: https://disastersafety.org/post-harvey-fortified-texas/

Information for Commercial Properties

The City of Rockport and Aransas County are scoping a grant project to submit for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding.  The grant proposal being put together is for floodproofing, so this is to make your building watertight below the level that needs flood protection to prevent floodwaters from entering. Making the structure watertight requires sealing the walls with waterproof coatings, impermeable membranes, or a supplemental layer of masonry or concrete.

Actual physical work toward floodproofing cannot be completed prior to grant awarding. FEMA has to do environmental and historical preservation review on all projects prior to work commencing. You do not need to have a NFIP policy to qualify, but you will need to get a policy upon completion of the project.
