The City of Rockport is accepting applications through June 1 for the unexpired term for City Council Ward 3. The position became available when Patrick Rios, the former council representative, was elected Mayor on May 5 and sworn into office on May 10.
Qualifications will follow those outlined in the City’s Charter, whereby a candidate:
Shall be at least 18 years of age at the time of the election for which they are filing.
Shall be a qualified voter of the City.
Shall have resided within the corporate limits of the City, or recently annexed territory, for at least 12 months prior to the Election Day.
Shall have resided in the Ward, or newly created Ward, they are seeking to represents for at least 12 months prior to the Election Day.
The term runs from appointment until the May 2019 election. All candidates will be interviewed individually by current City Council members in an Executive Session, which will be held in June. The selected individual will receive a monthly car and phone allowance and a pro-rated disbursement of the $1,370 annual salary. The individual appointed to fill the unexpired term will be eligible to run for the same position in 2019.
